Big trouble with his golf game, it’s something Dale Schrock never anticipated from that last batch of leaves he gathered.
“Late last October, I was emptying the bag of leaves, something I’ve done hundreds of times before, and I lost my balance on an incline area in the yard. Down I went on my right shoulder. I thought I could just shake it off,” he notes. “Crazily I tried to play golf soon after that. I couldn’t even swing the club.”
The X-rays did not show a break. Dale just put up with the pain and discomfort. “I couldn’t sleep, using my arm was painful and I could tell that the shoulder just wasn’t healing. Plus, I’ll say it again, I couldn’t even swing my golf club!” he laments.
Over 12 months after his injury Dale decided to see an expert at OSMC. With a smile, Dale states, “I chose OSMC because of their great reputation and expertise. And, I worked with Dr. Jeff Sonntag because when you want the latest techniques, it can be good to call in the young people.”
Two options were provided to help Dale feel better, attempt to repair the rotator cuff tear or replace the shoulder. He chose to have a reverse total shoulder replacement. Now, just two months out of surgery, he says his expectations were beyond exceeded.
From the first visits to OSMC, to the surgery performed at Elkhart General Hospital, to the physical therapy, Dale says his health care was outstanding. “I am surprised how quickly I’m healing and getting back to normal doing my favorite things,” he says.
“And… I’m thrilled to gently swing a golf club in Florida in just a few weeks from now!”
“Gently. Swing the club, gently.” reminds Dr. Sonntag.
